Urban Renewal Series – Urban Regeneration

The recent announcement by the Urban Renewal Authority of its latest urban renewal project at Nga Tsin Wai Road/Carpenter Road in Kowloon City has drawn media attention once again to our rapidly decaying townscape in the older districts.  With "double-ageing" in Hong Kong, we will be seeing more and more public and private sector initiatives on urban redevelopment / urban regeneration.

‘Urban Regeneration’ puts more emphasis on a holistic approach - not only project-based, but also district-based; not only property-led, but also sustainability-led; not only re-create, but also co-create.  In this issue, we will learn some past lessons about the traditional urban renewal approach, what urban regeneration is, get tips from foreign experts, and gain insights from recent urban regeneration projects in other cities.  Enjoy!
