Active Mobility

 

Active mobility, such as walking, cycling and scooter, refers to non-motorized means of transport. In terms of cycling, Hong Kong is lagging behind in bicycle-friendliness as we ranked 84th out of 90 in a 2019 global survey when compared with other global cities. To promote bicycle usage, the Hong Kong government has put efforts into cycling infrastructure like extending the cycle track network. However, can Hong Kong learn from other countries’ experiences to further enhance bicycle-friendliness? In this issue, let’s take a look at how cities reduce car use and promote walking and cycling by superblocks design, integrate cycling with public transit, and even imagine the usage of active mobility under the pandemic.
