Full-time/Part-time Project Associate / Research Associate / Research Assistant – Spatial Stream
[Appointment period: 12 to 24 months initially, with possibility of further appointment]

Duties
The appointees will be required to:

  • assist the project leader in the research project - “Study on effective transitional housing delivery in Hong Kong”. For the posts of Project Associates, the appointees will be required to lead and coordinate the works and output of the team and be responsible for delivering the project objectives in accordance with the prescribed quality and time programme;

  • conduct comparison study on the provision of transitional social housing or short-term affordable housing internationally, including housing policies, planning and building regulatory control, tenancy provisions, industry and community (non-governmental organizations) participation, construction technology (on off-site modular or prefabricated construction), and related social services development such as personal empowerment and neighbourhood schemes;

  • examine and analyse local provisions with reference to (a) above, and formulate policy recommendations and relevant streamlining measures on planning and building regulatory control;

  • develop “Best Practice Guide for Delivery of Transitional Housing Projects” to include policy and planning guideline and principles for reference by potential project proponents and operators;

  • develop “Development Manual for Transitional Housing” to cover building design and construction technical issues in all stages of the development and operation process for all involved sectors and professionals;

  • conduct public and industry seminars and consultation groups to facilitate the above, as well as disseminating final recommendations for evaluation and feedback in form of questionnaire survey and journal publications;

  • perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation or his delegates; and

  • may be required to work occasionally outside normal office hours, including Saturdays and Sundays; and travel to conduct site/factory visits outside Hong Kong.

Qualifications

  • Applicants for the Project Associate posts should (i) have a master’s degree or a good honours degree in Building Design, Engineering, Construction or related disciplines; (ii) have at least three years of project experience including recognised professional practice in architectural design, structural engineering, building surveying, construction project management, real estate/housing management or related fields; (iii) possess corresponding professional qualification of registration as full member of professional institutes in Hong Kong or equivalent; (iv) have demonstrated leadership in execution of relevant projects with multiple stakeholders of different disciplines and sectors; and (v) be conversant with local building regulations and construction contracting practices being a definite advantage. Preference will be given to those with recent project experience in residential projects and Modular Integrated Construction.

  • Applicants for the Research Associate posts should (i) have a master’s degree or a good honours degree in Building Design, Engineering, Construction or related disciplines; (ii) have at least three years of research or work experience in architectural design, structural engineering, building surveying, construction project management, real estate/housing management or related fields; and (iii) be conversant with local building regulations and construction contracting practices being a definite advantage. Preference will be given to those with recent research experience in housing/real estate projects and Modular Integrated Construction.

  • Applicants for the Research Assistant posts should (i) have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification in Architecture, Urban Planning, Engineering, Surveying, Real Estate/Housing, Social Services or related disciplines; and (ii) have essential skills in data collection and statistical analysis. Preference will be given to those with at least one to two years of experience in assisting research projects. Fresh graduates of appropriate background or training will also be considered.

Applicants should also:

  • have good communication and interpersonal skills in engaging multiple stakeholders in the construction and social services sectors including the community;

  • have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; and

  • be independent, self-motivated and responsible for leading various projects or research tasks.
