Livable Quarters

In recent years, the Government of Hong Kong has actively adopted multiple approaches to tackle the housing problems (especially for grassroots citizens).  Transitional housing, which brought substantial environmental improvements for people living in sub-divided flats, is an example in point.  However, to many who are lucky enough to live in a self-contained unit in public/subsidized/private housing, living in a larger quarter remains a remote reality.

In this issue, we explore various living conditions in Hong Kong.  How do Hong Kong people use creativity to create a functional living quarter out of the increasingly small-sized units?  Do we planners play a role in improving the per-capita living space for citizens in Hong Kong?
