Urban Planning Symposium 2024
Urban Planning Symposium 2024
Urban Planning Agendas for the 21st Century - A Comparison of London and Hong Kong
Celebrating our 45th Anniversary, the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) has sent a delegation of Hong Kong professional planners to London, United Kingdom (UK) from 14 to 21 April 2024 to conduct professional exchanges between Hong Kong planners and practicing planners, planning students in London and members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), enabling our members to keep abreast on the latest planning issues and policies and infrastructure development in London.
The delegation’s anchor event - The Hong Kong x London Urban Planning Symposium 2024 - has been successfully held on 18th April 2024 (Thursday). The Planning Symposium aims to compare and contrast the vision and implementation of strategic planning in Hong Kong and London. With “Hong Kong 2030+: Towards a Planning Vision and Strategy Transcending 2030” and the London Plan 2021, planning options and policy interventions in both cities have been shaped by higher level directions, as well as local context that offers a more flexible environment to trial and error. The two cities’ strategic plans show their effort in combating climate change, enhancing ecological low carbon, and tackling socio-economic disparity.
