The HKIP 45th Anniversary Event Series launched / 香港規劃師學會45週年活動巡禮開始

Dear Members,

This year marks a significant milestone of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) as we celebrate our 45 years of dedication, growth and impactful contributions. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all members for your unwavering support to the Institute.

(Entry submitted by Mr. Osbert LEUNG and Ms. Aileen CHENG in the HKIP 45th Anniversary Logo and Slogan Design Competition. Congratulations and they will be awarded two free seats in the HKIP 45th Anniversary Dinner as a token of appreciation.)

Town planners, as citymakers, shall embrace our future and play a pioneering role in co-creating a sustainable future with the community. The logo has adopted an isometric design to convey the idea of three-dimensional town planning nowadays. The arrow symbolises our aspirations in shaping a better future and advancement over time. Visual elements of the built environment, nature and community have been incorporated in the logo to reflect our aim to create nature-based, human-oriented and inclusive solutions to resolving urban problems. The complementary colours of sharp orange and blue represent the energy and vibrancy planners exhibit in our everyday work.

We are beyond excited to announce that the HKIP is going to launch its year-long commemorative celebrations to celebrate the momentous occasion of our 45th anniversary. A preview of our upcoming signature events and programme are as follows and we look forward to seeing you then:

The Hong Kong Planning Professionals’ Delegation to London 2024

Fully supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London and the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, the HKIP is sending a delegation to London, United Kingdom from 14 to 21 April to conduct professional exchanges between Hong Kong planners and practicing planners, planning students in London and members of the Royal Town Planning Institute, enabling our members to keep abreast on the latest planning issues and policies and infrastructure development in London.

HKIP 45th Anniversary Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony will be held at Tai Kwun, Central in the morning of 8 June (Sat) to kick off our year-long celebratory programme for the HKIP’s 45th anniversary. Distinguished guests will be invited to share their views on the role and value of planners in the modern days. More event details will be provided in the coming days.

“Exploring Planners’ Personalities” MBTI Workshop Series

With the use of a customised personality test for town planning professionals, this workshop aims to provide an insightful exploration of our personalities, allowing planners to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their peers, while exploring the unique identity of being a town planner. It offers a unique platform to foster cohesion within our professional community. The event consists of two workshops which will be held in the afternoons of 22 June (Sat) and 24 August (Sat).

“Encounter the Unexpected” – Fireside Chat Series

The event series aims to foster dialogue and knowledge sharing with different sectors and facilitate thought-provoking discussions on issues with planning implications that planners are often unaware of. The sharing will be held in the format of fireside chat - a moderated stage conversation involving a moderator and unexpected guest(s).

Design Competition for Secondary School Students

The design competition aims to promote the awareness of urban planning and design among secondary students and enhance the connection and knowledge exchange between urban planners and the younger generation and the wider community. The design competition will take place from July to October.

Pop-up Events / Interest Classes

A series of pop-up events / interest classes will be held throughout the year to foster interaction and exchange among members. The upcoming one will be the exclusive visit to Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters in the afternoon of 25 May (Sat). More event details will follow.

We look forward to members’ active participation in our year-long commemorative celebrations. Should you have any enquiry, please feel free to email to 45a@hkip.org.hk.
