Obituary Notice

In Memory of Dr Chamson Chau OBE, CStJ, JP

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Chamson Chau on 9 October 2023.

Dr Chau was a pioneer in Hong Kong’s town planning and instrumental in establishing a fully-fledged town planning office in the 1980s laid the foundation for the modern concept of urban planning. He retired from the Hong Kong Civil Service in 1990 as Director (General) of Buildings and Lands after 30 years of public service.  He was also a fellow member of the Institute and the first registered professional planner.

His significant contributions to the town planning profession would be long remembered and cherished. The Institute would like to express our deepest condolences to his family.

悼念周湛燊博士

香港規劃師學會同仁懷著極沉痛的心情宣告，周湛燊博士於2023年10月9日安詳離世。

周博士是香港城市規劃界先驅。他在80 年代促成了城市規劃辦公室的建立，為現代城市規劃理念發展奠定基礎。周博士曾擔任屋宇地政署署長，從事公共服務30多年。他亦是本會的資深會員以及香港規劃師註冊管理局第一位註冊會員。

我們將永遠懷念及珍惜周博士為規劃專業所作的貢獻，並謹在此向他的家人致以最深切的慰問。
